Bumps & Babies…

Bumps & Babies…

Well, May seemed to pass me by in a haze of work and an exhausting but wonderful holiday in Cornwall (the word ‘holiday’ needs to be redefined, once you’ve have children…).  I can’t believe it is June already and way too long since my last Blog.

So my big news this month is that I will have a brand new subject to photograph come the autumn as I am pregnant again and am due in October.

To celebrate, I have decided to run a promotion on maternity photography and offer a 10% discount to anyone booking a Bump To Baby Package before my new addition arrives.  So, if there are any pregnant ladies out there who fancy a hormonal chat and a piece of cake (it’s for the baby, not me) and would like to have some lovely photographs taken of their beautiful bumps then please give me a call on 07760 270908 or email me on sue@funnyoldworld.net and let’s get a date in the diary.

Currently work seems to be increasing with the size of my tummy and it is busy, busy, busy here at FOW at the moment which is great.  Next stop London for a spot of baby photography, followed by a family portrait in Hampshire and then a whole lot of nursery portraits in West Sussex.

Nursery photography is hard work the way I do it but I absolutely love it.  I am on a personal crusade to reinvent the staid, old fashioned type of school and nursery photography that we had taken when we were kids and give parents really beautiful, natural portraits of their children.  Therefore I shoot with natural light as much as possible and take pictures candidly while the children are playing.  It is much more time consuming than sticking them, one at a time, in front of a grey background but the results speak for themselves and I have had such lovely feedback from parents, it makes it all worthwhile.  Have a look in the Nursery & School Gallery, if you’re interested and let me know what you think.

Anyhoo, I have just purchased a new Lowepro camera back pack so that I can still carry around all my equipment without putting my back out, so I am off to have a play with it (let’s hope the waist strap is expandable…) but will leave you with my favourite photo of the month.  Bye for now.

Hello World!

Welcome to Funny Old World’s new website and my very own blog.

It has been a VERY long winter but now, thank goodness, it looks like spring is finally here and photographers everywhere are surfacing from their darkrooms and studios and stumbling, squinting into the light…

Although I have enjoyed the winteriness and the photo opportunities that it has brought, I have to admit to being SO over frozen feet and flash! I am a ‘natural light’ kind of a girl, so those extra few hours are very welcome indeed!

So, what’s going on at FOW? Well, I have just come back from sunny Plymouth where I was taking photos of the Kelly Collage Swim School. The kids there were great and we had a whale of a time taking action shots of their various activities although I could have done without becoming target practice in a game of Dodge Ball…

Next on the horizon is a very special portrait of a very small person who I first met as a bump, a few months ago. Bump to baby photography is one of my favourite things as it is always so exciting to see the tiny character that has emerged. When I was pregnant with my son George I got my husband Matt to photograph my bump – I nearly didn’t bother because I felt fat and tired and fed up but I’m so glad I did now. You think you’ll remember how things are but you don’t… bumps turn into babies and babies turn into toddlers so quickly. George is now 15 months old and it is hard to remember how small he was, but then that are what photographs are for…
